Deadline approaches for hospital board

The nomination period for candidates to take out papers and declare their candidacy is between July 15 and Aug. 9. All completed forms of candidacy must be received at the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters no later than 5 p.m. Aug. 9.

Dear Jean: My husband comes home stressed every night. He is a zombie. Then he works all weekend and is so cranky by Sunday night that I am happy to see him go off for another 70-hour week. I don't think this is worth all those bloody stock options and the ego satisfaction he gets from being indispensable. Please suggest how to help him tell his boss off or just quit his job. Kay Payne, popular art docent from the San Francisco De Young Museum, will present a history of portraiture. She terms it, "glamorous and elegant, commanding and supercilious. The Los Altos Main Library is the subject of a campaign to raise $300,000, to upgrade the resources of the library in science, technology and medicine (STM). Through a challenge grant, the David and Lucille Packard foundation has agreed to match community contributions. For every $2 raised, the Packard Foundation will contribute $1.

SPLASHING SUCCESS: Fremont Hills Country Club's swim team defeated Ladera Oaks June 27 in an exciting and fun-filled meet at Ladera Oaks. The meet was not decided until the final event, with Los Altos Hills' Fremont Hills winning 309-306. Katherine Gorman won the age 6-and-under girls freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke, in which she set a league record with a time of 23.72 seconds.
