Through a challenge grant, the David and Lucille Packard foundation has agreed to match community contributions. For every $2 raised, the Packard Foundation will contribute $1. A primary objective of the campaign is to strengthen the library as a community focal point for using information and information access tools associated with developing technologies. Materials purchased will serve varying levels of interest and expertise, and will include books, periodical subscriptions, software, CD-ROMs, videos, electronic database subscriptions and other new media as they are introduced. Another fund-raising component, a Memorial Day to Labor Day Bike-a-Thon, where riders seek pledges of 5 cents or more per mile they ride over the summer, is being organized by George Remsberg and assisted by Nick Testa. Interested cyclists can participate by registering for $25 at The Los Altos Library. All contributions are tax deductible. Checks may be made out to Friends of the Library/Vision 21, and mailed to 1001 Parma Way, Los Altos 94024. |
