Free composting workshops offered in Los Altos

printer friendly version Print this story

Composters from the University of California Cooperative Extension will be demonstrating home composting techniques for Los Altos residents at two upcoming workshops. These free workshops are from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday in Room A of Hillview Community Center and Saturday, Aug. 17, at Grant Park in Room 3. For reservations, call (408) 299-4147.

These two-hour workshops introduce gardeners to the basic steps in starting and maintaining healthy compost bins. Within three months of attending a workshop, backyard compost can be used to amend existing garden soil, or be used as a mulch or as part of a potting mix. It also can help reduce the amount of kitchen waste going to the landfill.
