Man charged with attempted kidnapping remains in custody

A Los Altos man remains in custody on charges of attempted kidnapping and molesting or annoying a child after his attorney asked the court Thursday to delay his bail hearing until Aug. 16. His bail is currently set at $100,000.

President Clinton was in town on July 23 on a fund-raising jaunt to raise money for his presidential campaign. A private dinner for 20 of Silicon Valley's movers-and-shakers was held at the home of Susie Tompkins, founder of Esprit in San Francisco. Among the selected guests were George Marcus (Marcus & Millichap) of Los Altos Hills who enjoyed food prepared by Alice Waters, owner of Chez Panise in Berkeley. The admission price for that meal was a tad bit more than one would pay for a meal at her restaurant.

Marie Potts, a venerable elder of the Maidu tribe in Plumas County, directed the construction of a typical early American village including a tule sweat house and a teepee. TOURNEY TIME: The first Fore Women Golfers Tournament, sponsored by Fore Women Golfers Television of Mountain View, will tee off at noon Aug. 18 at Sunken Gardens Golf Course in Sunnyvale.
