Honorees will be recognized on Sept. 28 at Hidden Villa. The awards recognize national and local individuals whose lives and accomplishments demonstrate respect for human dignity and diversity and the protection of the natural environment as central values in a peaceful, healthy and humane world. These values capture the Duvenecks' vision and philosophy in founding Hidden Villa and its programs. The local award honorees are Keith and Luella McFarland of Los Altos Hills. Their involvement with the Peace Center, United Nations and the Fair Play Council, their humanitarian efforts as peace activists and helping children, and their willingness to volunteer and support Hidden Villa earned them the award. The regional award honorees are longtime supporters Mel and Joan Lane of Atherton and Bill and Jean Lane of Portola Valley. The national Jaward honoree is Denis Hayes, founder of Earth Day and current president of the Bullitt Foundation in Seattle. The honorees will be presented with a special photograph taken at Hidden Villa by Robert Glenn Ketchum, an internationally famous nature photographer. There will be a showing of his work along with a special viewing of seldom seen oils by American Impressionist painter, Frank Duveneck, and watercolors by his wife, Lizzie Boott Duveneck. Tickets for the event cost $125 per person of which $80 is a tax deductible contribution to Hidden Villa. For more information or to make reservations, call 949-8652. |
