Town Crier Staff Report

Los Altos police arrested a Palo Alto man Friday night following a July 29 incident at his Los Altos office on El Camino Real which lead to a drug bust.

Joe Gonzalez, 38, was arrested on charges of possession of drugs, possession of drugs for sale and transporting narcotics after police found 3.5-ounces of methamphetamine and 1-ounce of marijuana and some scales in locked bank bags in his car, which was parked behind his Los Altos office, said Los Altos Police Sgt. Bob Lacey.

Police initially arrested Gonzalez July 29 on charges of sexual assault. Police then searched his car and found the locked bank bags for which Gonzalez said he had no key. He was released July 30 on the assault charge, Lacey said.

Police sought three search warrants, which they executed over the next few days, for the locked bank bags, his office and a storage unit.

"When the Sunnyvale police K-9 came, he went crazy when he sniffed the bags," Lacey said.

Police said they expected the District Attorney to have filed charges Monday.

"We don't know his (Gonzalez's) business," Lacey said. "We would like to know. Neither does the guy who leased him the office."
