Nat Gorham describes his son, Skate, as a "ball-oholic." At age 9, the Los Altos Hills youngster spends most of his time playing baseball, basketball and tennis.

Of the three, his favorite sport is tennis, "Because it's only me out there, and I either win or lose based upon what I do," Skate said.

And he did a big thing recently, winning the Northern California Tennis Association's 10-and-under championships in Lodi. The Pinewood School fourth-grader also netted second place at the NorCal Clay Court Championships in Rocklin.

Skate has been playing tennis for four years out of the University Club and the Mountain View Junior Tennis League.

"He's worked very hard to succeed this year. He's coming along nicely," Nat said.
