Softball World Series

Town Crier Staff Report

Mountain View Little League's senior softballers have been together for two years, and the 13-15-year-old girls are already some of the best in the nation.

And last Saturday the locals went up against a tough Naples, Fla., squad and lost, 1-0, in the Senior Softball World Series championship game in Kalamazoo, Mich. Had Mountain View won, it would have had to beat undefeated Naples again to notch the title.

Mountain View opened up tournament play with a 5-1 win over South Holland, Ill. Pitcher Megan Dunham tossed a complete-game no-hitter for the locals, and Breana Romo went 3 for 3 and scored two runs.

In its next game, Mountain View played errorless defense, belted out eight hits and hurler Cory Montalbano gave up one hit and no walks in a 6-0 victory over BC Canada.

The girls suffered their first loss last Thursday to Naples, 2-0, and dropped into the loser's bracket. And with another victory over South Holland, 6-2, on Friday, Mountain View set up the title contest with Naples.
