Originally started by a group of weavers in 1973, it now showcases watercolor and oil paintings, pastels, etchings, note cards, and pottery by full-time artists who not only exhibit their work, manage gallery business, but also staff the gallery Monday through Saturday. The current show "Home and Garden," a group show that explores the interior and exteriors of homes, continues through Saturday. Next month's theme is "Los Altos," which will be highlighted in an exhibition entitled "Our Town, your Town." Viewpoints Gallery artists are preparing new works of art for this upcoming show. Carolyn Hofstetter, longtime gallery artist, explained that theme shows provide a creative and positive venue for artists, while providing unusual subjects for art buyers and browsers to look at each month. The shows change at the beginning of each month. As one show is dismantled, another is installed. In addition to giving each artist an opportunity to exhibit throughout the year in group, one person, and special artist shows, the theme format offers cohesive structure to the monthly shows. Theme shows also encourages the members to produce and show new work, to get feedback about their work, with the potential to sell work. The shows also are great fun.
