She finished third in the overall standings with 58 points, and was to then compete in the Senior Nationals. A member of the Santa Clara Swim Club, Winkler placed third in the 400 freestyle with a senior national record time of 4:22.50, took second in the 1500 free in 17.16.23 and finished in the top six in the 800 free, 200 individual medley and 800 free relay. Also from Los Altos, Molly Sullivan, 16, raced to fifth in the 800 free in 9:03.29 and also swam on the 800 free relay team.SEEING GREEN: The annual John Welch Memorial Golf Tournament tees off Sept. 14 at Shoreline Golf Course in Mountain View. The format of play is foursome, and all funds raised go to the Santa Clara County Special Olympics. After golf, there will be a barbecue at Cuesta Park and lots of surprises. FLIPS FOR KIDS: The International Gymnastics Academy, 3455-B Edison Way in Menlo Park, invites boys and girls to register (through Sept. 14) for non-competitive recreational classes. Sessions are under the direction of Kim Kludt, 1984 Olympics coach and former owner of Twisters Gym in Mountain View, and George Iusan, Romanian national coach. Preschoolers 3-5 years old practice a developmental program and use tumbling mats, bars, beams, trampolines, balls, parachutes and climbing structures.
