Town Crier Staff Report

Cornish & Carey of Los Altos is opening their offices to the Environmental Volunteers (EV) Sunday and Monday for the EV's annual phone-a-thon.

"We'll be phoning almost 1,000 people those two nights," explained Buffy Caulkins, a 16-year EV veteran, and long-time Los Altos resident. "The arrangements made by agent Karen Emerzian and her gracious hospitality made a positive difference in the success of our 1995 phone-a-thon - we're so pleased to be invited again this September."

EV volunteer Jan Fenwick said approximately 25 people would be manning the phones. "This is an opportunity to get people up to date on our programs," she said.

The EV, in existence 24 years, sends trained volunteers into elementary and middle schools throughout San Mateo and Santa Clara counties to teach children the love of nature and the love of learning. Their mission is to promote understanding of, and responsibility for, the environment through hands-on science education.
