CARD CHAMPS: Five Los Altos and Los Altos Hills bridge players deserve a big hand for their recent victories in the American Contract Bridge League All-Western Championships. They are: Mary Van Tamelen (Charity Pairs Stratum B), Linda Spengler (Flight B Consolation and Flight A Swiss TM), Jody Read (Flight B Consolation), Margery Yates (Women's Pairs Stratum A) and Norma Wolf (Women's Pairs Stratum B).

TENNIS TIME: The MidPeninsula Tennis Patrons swing into its 30th annual Champagneships tournament Oct. 5-6 at local private courts and the Stanford University varsity courts. The event, which benefits the Northern California Junior Tennis Program, will feature men's, women's and mixed doubles divisions for players 19 years old and up. On Sunday, players from Stanford will put on a mixed doubles exhibition. To register or for more information, call 948-1709.

SWIM SCENE: Los Altos resident Lauren McFall, 16, will perform this weekend in "Olympic Celebration," a synchronized swimming exhibition featuring the gold medal-winning 1996 Olympic Team and the Santa Clara Aquamaids champions and competitors. The event kicks off Friday-Sunday with a barbecue at 6 p.m. and the exhibition at 8 p.m. at the Santa Clara International Swim Center, 2625 Patricia Drive.
