Kaiser insensitive to concerns about air

I am a native Los Altan, I have lived here all my life because I love this area so much. That is why I am so upset to hear about Kaiser tire burning (Nov. 6 Town Crier). I can't believe that for 45 days Kaiser was producing, from the burning of the tires, potentially dangerous toxins, without the public's knowledge.

This bothers me so much because we breathe this air, our children breathe the same air, and if it has harmful toxins in it, why would we want to live here?

There is only an "insignificant increase" in other emissions, says the environmental affairs manager of Kaiser.

What Ralph Venturino may deem insignificant, the rest of the community might otherwise disagree. In reference also to comments from the manager, who says that this isn't even an issue, it is an issue that affects us greatly. I don't know about you, but I would like to be the judge of what I think is a large or small increase in emissions.

We need to tell Kaiser and all the health officials that we need to know if they are going to be using something that environmentalists disapprove of.

My suggestion is to write in to newspapers, attend community meetings and bring up the issue. Make sure that we are heard and that Kaiser knows that we as a community aren't going to take anything, unless we are fully informed and approve.
