The 14th annual Community Volunteer Service Awards were presented Dec. 6 to 11 volunteers whose sole criteria for selection is the value of the volunteer's contribution to the community. The selection was made by the Los Altos-Los Altos Hills Volunteer Awards Committee and announced at a luncheon and reception at the Los Altos Youth Center.

Master of ceremonies Ralph Vetterlein said without volunteers, there would be no contributions in Los Altos and Los Altos Hills. "Volunteering is the life blood of this community and the result is a better quality of life for everyone," he said.

The 14th annual joint community awards were:

Dan Alexander, Los Altos Hills, for his work with the Los Altos Hills Historical Society, United Way, Chamber of Commerce and Los Altos Horseman's Association.

Lynne Canham, Los Altos, for her work with Vega volunteers, Channel 18 and "Space Station Los Altos."

Dan Dana, Los Altos Hills, for his 50 years of volunteering at Hidden Villa and building an environmental resource center and demonstration farm.

Linda and Ed Dodge, Los Altos, for their work the past seven years installing and maintaining the seasonal banners which adorn downtown Los Altos, in addition to volunteering in numerous events.

Jan Fenwick, Los Altos Hills, for her leadership on the Foothill College Foundation and her active work with Environmental Volunteers.

Karen Melbye, Los Altos Hills, for her volunteer work with the Chamber of Commerce and the PenWest Board of Realtors, Los Altos-Mountain View division.

Carol Tefft, Los Altos, for volunteering her time with the Friends of the Library, Library Commission and Quota Club, and for being a selfless worker at her job as head librarian for the Los Altos main library.

Barbara Vetterlein, Los Altos Hills, for volunteering in different scouting activities and for being a Little League volunteer and a candy striper at El Camino Hospital.

Ralph Vetterlein, Los Altos Hills, for his role as Los Altos Mediation Program chairman and his activities on the Los Altos Hills Safety Commission.
