Downtown

A. G. Edwards: Stockbrokers out of St. Louis are actively looking for approximately 5,000 square feet of office space in the downtown area to open a stock brokerage business.

Pacific Research Associates, 399 Main St., is actively looking for approximately 3,000 square feet of expansion space.

Video Man, 271 State St., has a new owner, Brian Henderson, of Giraffe Data Systems Corp.

Rancho Shopping

Center

Gymboree has signed a five-year lease for the 2,533 square foot space previously occupied by Stylers Floor Company.

The Blintz closed in December after 24 years in business and all equipment was auctioned off Dec. 29. The 3,582 square floor space is available including an additional 1,490 square foot next door if needed by a new tenant. Rancho Merchants Association members held a goodbye party Jan. 9 for former owner Frank Schumann, with food provided by Andronico's Market.

A retail tenant is being sought for the former Sanwa Bank location. Sanwa Bank relocated to downtown Los Altos Jan. 10.

Loyola Corners

At the December meeting, the Loyola Corners board of directors unanimously voted to contract with the California Farmers' Market Association (CFMA) to manage the market starting next year. The CFMA has 272 farmers under contract and currently run farmer's markets in Daly City, Mountain View, San Leandro, Blossom Hill in San Jose and Mission City in Santa Clara.

Because Bank of America can no longer guarantee the market a place, the goal is to obtain a use permit and move the market to the parking plaza behind Fremont Avenue businesses beginning with the 1998 market.

El Camino corridor

Recent commercial changes in Los Altos have customers greeting some familiar businesses at new locations.

Some of those changes, announced at the Jan. 6 Economic Development Committee meeting, follow:

Demo Active Sports has leased 2,579 square feet of retail space at 4500 El Camino Real, the former Crown Books space. The business sells and rents ski equipment in the winter and camping equipment in the summer.

Tree Farm site update: A group of investors has control of the property. They plan to build a mixed use of housing and office on the site, located between San Antonio Road and Los Altos Avenue.

The economic development committee meets the first Monday of every month.
