Learn how to upgrade your 286, 386 or 486 computer to a Pentium by replacing the motherboard at a Los Altos Library workshop at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 22.

Volunteer Vic Sansum, a retired electronics engineer, will give a talk intended for the low-budget home computer owner who has some awareness of the modules that typically constitute a computer employing an Intel microprocessor and a Microsoft operating system.

Sansum will offer tips for computer owners considering an upgrade. He'll cover such subject matter as the motherboard, computer case, power supply, microprocessor, memory, hard disk, modem, sound card, CD-ROM and video card.
