St. William notification appreciated

When the City of Los Altos began the process of purchasing the St. William school site last year, it did amid resident concerns that officials would plan and approve the transaction without neighbors' knowledge. We're delighted that the opposite has been the case.

The city has been exceptionally attentive to residents on this sensitive issue, providing adequate advance notice of meetings on the 5.5-acre site. For instance, the city's Parks and Recreation Department last week announced a planning meeting for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Los Altos Community Center to inform residents and seek input. The meeting is among several planned with the intention of involving the residents.

Communication was a key issue expressed during the recent "Vision" meetings between city officials and residents. It is encouraging to see the city following through on its pledge to keep residents apprised. We will help.
