Topics will include Spanish language courses and an update from Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District superintendent Don Phillips on the $58 million high schools renovation project. The council serves as a forum for concerned parents and residents about high school operations. Meetings are open to the public. LAHS students prepare for robotics competition Los Altos High School is looking for student members and parent volunteers to participate in the US First Robotics competition. The competition takes place at Disney's World's Epcot, April 10-12. The competition involves building a robot which can score with a ball in a sporting event. For example, one year the robot had to score the most goals in a soccer game while another robot defended. The team is sponsored by NASA and engineers will help educate players regarding building of a robot. For more information, call Kendall Aldous, physics teacher at Los Altos High School, at 960-8849. THAT PLACE is the place for music Teens can listen to live music from local high school bands while playing pingpong and pool at THAT PLACE. All activities are free of charge. High School students residing in or attending school in Mountain View or Los Altos and their high school age guests are eligible to attend. 'Gone Dancin'' fund-raiser The Los Altos High School Parent's Association will hold its annual spring fund-raiser, titled "Gone Dancin'" 8-11 p.m. March 1 at the Los Altos Youth Center, 1 N. San Antonio Road. The benefit for Los Altos High School programs will feature dancing to the music of The Hitmen. Procceds will benefit such programs as the Career Counseling Center, performing arts, commuications and other programs where funds of lacking. Admission is $20. For more information and reservations, call 917-0752. Alta Vista needs volunteers Volunteers are needed at Alta Vista High School in the administration offices for the current school year. Alta Vista High School, located at 4000 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto, is in the Cubberley Community Center and is an alternative learning high school for the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District. Volunteers would assist in answering phones, typing, filing, photo copying, and student assistance. Volunteers can make their own schedules. For more information, call Anna Gikas at 843-6975. P.I.E. needs host families Foreign high school students are scheduled to arrive soon in Los Altos for academic program homestays, and the sponsoring organization needs a few more local host families. The students are between the ages of 15 and 18 years and are English-speaking. There are many benefits to hosting an exchange student.
