Los Altos takes down Cupertino

BOYS SOCCER: Mountain View finished up its season with a 3-0 win over Lynbrook on Thursday. Chad Newton, Gorkis Robles and Scott Ross tallied for the Spartans, who finished 2-6-4 in league.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Cortney Keegan and Charlie Reyerson scored big for St. Francis last week in wins over Rincon Valley (54-53) and Palo Alto (62-35). In the nonleague victory over tough Rincon Valley, Keegan netted 24; against Paly, Reyerson tallied 25 to up the Lancers' league record to 8-2, 21-3 overall.

Mountain View and Los Altos both bounced back with wins over Milpitas (46-42) and Wilcox (56-54), respectively. Annie Tepe led Mountain View (5-7 league) with 17 points, and Jenn Santos popped in 20 for Los Altos (6-5).

Tracy Hirai and Antoinette McLean had season highs of 11 and nine points, respectively, in the Panthers' 68-28 win over Notre Dame-San Jose. Pinewood led 20-0 after one quarter and cruised the rest of the way. The Panthers are atop the league at 10-0.

Los Altos High's wrestlers pulled reverse moves on Cupertino and itself in last Wednesday's final league match.

And 215-pounder Ryan Geneman was at center stage. In the final event of the night, the senior pinned his opponent in 25 seconds to give Los Altos a 31-29 win over the then-unbeaten league champs. It was Geneman's first league victory of the season.

"We've been in every match we've wrestled this year, but we haven't been able to win (at the end)," said Coach Nick Testa. "But this time things got reversed."

The Eagles finished 2-4 in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division.

Also notching wins for the Eagles were Aaron Kash (103), Steve Chu (112), Stefaan Lodge (125), Jon Wiener (160), John Sigua (171) and Gunars Turaids (189).

GIRLS SOCCER: Kasey Clark carried the load of the scoring for Los Altos in last week's 1-0 wins over St. Francis and Mountain View.

Against St. Francis, Clark took a pass inside the 18-yard box from Lea Jaeger, wove through two defenders and put the ball into the far corner of the net for her 10th goal this season.

St. Francis started out slow in the first half, but controlled the midfield in the second interval. The Lancers' best chance to equalize was when Anna Kraus shot about a foot wide of the goal; Los Altos goalkeeper Becky Kniss also staved off several attacks with three crucial saves at the tip of the box.

In St. Francis' 1-0 win over Gunn the next day, Kraus found the net five minutes into the match thanks to an assist from Alia Mendez.

And after its 3-0 win over Los Altos on Thursday, St. Francis finished tied with Los Gatos for first place in the SCVAL De Anza Division with 12-2 records, and Los Altos and Gunn shared second with 10-4 marks. All four teams were expected to qualify for this week's Central Coast Section playoffs.

Over at Mountain View, Shelly Nyrhila tallied her 14th goal of the season in the Spartans' 3-1 loss to Monta Vista.

Pinewood laced together a three-game winning streak with victories over Immaculate Conception Academy (5-0), Fremont Christian (3-1) and Valley Dublin (1-0). Tara Mamone and Linda Crites had three goals apiece, Kapri Merrill had two and Maggie Koshland added one.

In the Dublin match, Crites tore up the right wing, took a slant pass from Charlotte Vallaeys in the box and scored. The Panthers were 6-8-1 at press time.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Adam Bingham's 22 points helped lead Pinewood to a 63-54 win over Valley Dublin. The Panthers, 7-2 in league, trailed 28-25 at the half.

Palo Alto downed Los Altos for the second time this season with a 42-41 overtime victory. Ben Kahn had 12 points and Tamar Jones added 10 for Los Altos (4-5 league), which saw its CCS chances slip with the loss.
