On page 73, you'll see a full page color photo of plates made by ceramist Diane Dunwoodie, daughter of Los Altos residents Duane and Marlene Dunwoodie. Diane, a graduate of Santa Rita, Egan and Los Altos High School, now has her own studio in Novato. The first-ever Heart of the Community Gala on Valentine's weekend sponsored by Los Altos Community Foundation raised $2,700 for the foundation's programs in a silent auction. Penny Lave, one of the 200 partygoers, said that the party was a huge success. "I think it was such a success because it was unstructured - the buffet and bar were open all evening and the band played the entire time," Lave said. "We'll definitely do this again next year." And you thought your Valentine was special - wait until you hear this! For his wife Chris Tompane's February birthday (she's with Comerica Bank of Los Altos) husband John presented her with a surprise gift box that held two tickets to Paris for the last week in March. Exactly 10 years ago on March 29, he took Chris to Paris on a surprise trip (pack a carry bag, you can't ask any questions) to ask her to marry him. This anniversary trip will relive this extraordinarily magic and romantic event. Los Altos Hills resident Kelly Gorman hosted a black-tie dinner at her parents' home for her date and eight of her friends to "set the mood" for Pinewood High School Winter Formal held on the ship Monte Carlo in San Francisco. The tables were turned as Sue and Shane Gorman (Kelly's Mom and Dad) performed the serving duties and waited on the kids for this special soirée. And if you're looking for an afternoon respite and feel like a spot of tea, The Assistance League of Santa Clara County is hosting an open house on each Wednesday in March between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Costume Bank, 169 State St. Phone: 941-2610.
