Redwood Grove camp registration begins

The City of Los Altos Recreation Department will accept registration for its 1997 Summer Day Camp Programs at Redwood Grove Nature Preserve, beginning today.

The program and registration will be included in the spring 1997 schedule of classes.

Sertoma Club hosts St. Patrick's Dance

The Sertoma Club will host the "Sounds of the Big Band Era" from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, at the Los Altos Youth Center, 1 North San Antonio Road, Los Altos.

The public is invited to dance and listen to the music of the 25 piece Los Altos Big Band, which consists of many of the players from the popular Olde Towne Band.

The event features door prizes and light refreshments for sale. Proceeds benefit local service groups, including the Community Health Awareness Council and the Community Services Agency.

Tickets are $12 general admission per person and $10 for seniors age 65 and older.

Author to talk of WWII experience

Andy Doty will speak on his book, "Backwards Into Battle: A Tail Gunner's Journey Into WWII," 3 p.m. Sunday at Los Altos Hills Town Hall, 26379 Fremont Road.

Doty will talk of his experiences flying missions over Japan in a B-29 plane during World War II.

The talk is sponsored by the Los Altos Hills Historical Society and is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

'Grandma's Trunk' at History House

The Los Altos History House Museum has opened a new exhibit, titled, "Grandma's Trunk," which runs through May 31.

The exhibit is a collection of vintage clothing spanning from 1890 to the 1930s.

The exhibit features fabrics, designs and accessories from the private collection of Paula Wildanger and the Assistance league of Santa Clara County.

A reception is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. April 30, with members of the Assistance league modeling period clothing.

History House hours are 1-5 p.m. Wednesdays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, call 948-9427.

401 Rosita Ave. master planning

The city of Los Altos Parks and Recreation Commission will hold a meeting to hear public comments on the city's recreation needs and potential land uses for the 5.6-acre former St. William School site that the city recently bought. The meeting will be 7:30 p.m. on March 19 at Grant Park, 1575 Holt Ave. in Los Altos.

Hidden Villa to offer spring hike

Hidden Villa Wilderness Preserve in Los Altos Hills offers a spring kick-off hike, led by Joe Jordan of NASA, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 22.

The hike covers varied terrain ranging from forested stream to hilltop meadow, exploring such physical phenomena as waves and rainbows.

Rhododendron show to bloom here

Downtown Los Altos will host the American Rhododendron Society (ARS) De Anza Chapter Show and Sale on Saturday and Sunday, April 26 and 27, in the Community Plaza at Main and State streets. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
