Town Crier Staff Report

The winner of the 34th annual Los Altos Realtors Community Service Award will be announced in next week's Los Altos Town Crier, April 23.

Breaking with tradition, the Peninsula West Valley Association of Realtors (PenWest), Los Altos district, has decided to announce the winner in advance of the May 1 award luncheon to involve more friends and associates in celebrating with the award winner.

Up until this year, the winner was not named until the day of the luncheon.

The Community Service Award goes to a person or persons who have contributed in a meaningful way to the quality, spirit, and character of the community through his or her volunteer efforts.

The award was founded by the Los Altos Board of Realtors in 1964 to honor unsung volunteers in the community. Roy Dunnett was the first recipient.

Dunnett was honored for his work with youth in the community and for his efforts in establishing the Los Altos Youth Foundation.

PenWest's Los Altos district will carry on the tradition this year of selecting a recipient worthy of the title, "Citizen of the Year."

Last year's winner, Penny Lave, was honored for lending her time, talents and expertise to myriad non-profit organizations.

The 34th annual luncheon will be held at Michael's at Shoreline, in Mountain View.

Lunch reservations are currently being accepted at PenWest.

Individuals interested in attending can call PenWest at 949-9115.
