In St. Francis' first meet of the season, Lawton also placed first on the bars (9.0) and balance beam (9.1), and teammate Nikki Vesanovic topped the competition in the vault (8.7) and floor (9.5). The Lancers, runners-up in the Central Coast Section finals the last few years to Gunn, will host the Titans 4 p.m. Friday. In Los Altos' close 158.4-158.25 loss to Leland, Loren Parodi placed first all-around with a 35.9; she took first on the vault, beam and floor and tied for first on the bars. The Eagles are 3-2 on the year. VOLLEYBALL: Pinewood's Jon Neil nailed 16 kills and five aces, and Ho-Jun Chun had 12 kills and two blocks in the Panthers' 11-15, 15-4, 8-15, 15-9, 15-4 win over St. Lawrence Academy. Also, Young-Hoon Kim chipped in with seven kills, one block and two aces, and Brian Green had two crucial aces in the final games. The Panthers are 3-4 in league, 4-5 overall. SOFTBALL: Pinewood scored 33 runs and conceded only one in last week's wins over Immaculate Conception Academy (19-1) and Notre Dame-San Jose (14-0) to up its record to 4-1 league. Hot hitters for the week were Ali Harvey with a grand slam homer, double and six RBIs; Lauren Smith-Hams with a homer, double and five RBIs; and Liz Oliver and Isabella Escudero with three hits apiece against Notre Dame. Also, pitcher Kacey Scheppler threw her second no-hitter of the season against Notre Dame. She had 12 strikeouts in that contest. In a nonleague game against Sacred Heart Prep on Saturday, Smith-Hams hit another home run in Pinewood's 5-4 eight-inning loss. Oliver added three hits, including a double, for the Panthers (7-5 overall). BASEBALL: Los Altos added to its three-game winning streak with victories over Santa Clara (11-4) and first-place Lynbrook (13-11). Casey Lopez completed the week with five hits and eight RBIs and teamed up with Grant Koury for back-to-back homers to lead the charge against Lynbrook. Also against Lynbrook, Victor Ambruso contributed four hits, Dino Quintero had two, and pitchers Danny Chavez and Jamie Nolte combined for the win. Ryan Geneman owned the pitchers' mound against Santa Clara, striking out 15 in the complete-game win. Los Altos is 4-6 in league, 9-6 overall. TRACK & FIELD: Los Altos sophomore Pete Bjorklund notched a personal best shot-put throw of 54-feet-6 inches in the Eagles' 93-34 win over Palo Alto last Thursday.
