Author to sign 'Ma Dear's Apron' at Linden Tree

"Ma Dear's Apron" is a story that focuses on what it was like to be a poor, black, single mother and son living in the early 1900s. "Ma Dear's Apron" is based on McKissack's great- grandmother's experiences as a domestic worker in the South. The author recently inherited one of her great-grandmothers aprons, which inspired this story. In "Ma Dear's Apron," McKissack transforms the negative stereotype of the apron into a hallmark of women's hard work, determination, and power.
