Principal's comeback adds inspiration to MVHS graduation

The sun was just setting behind the pines surrounding Spartan stadium on June 10. Strains of "Pomp and Circumstance" and "Glory" filled the air. Proud parents, family and friends cheered and jockeyed for good photo position while younger children romped on the grass. Grandparents smiled and waved. It was graduation time for Mountain View High School's class of 1997.

A first for Alta Vista: graduation ceremonies

Seniors at Alta Vista High School did something June 9 that no other class at the school has done. For the first time in 25 years, students who were enrolled in the school's continuation program participated in a graduation ceremony complete with caps, gowns and diplomas.

City officials planned to bring the favored joint-use plan before the Los Altos School District board last Monday and before the Parks and Recreation Commission today. The plan involves converting Covington's multipurpose room into a 25,000-square-foot recreation facility, a 200-seat theater, new locker rooms and rest rooms. This plan allows for use of existing parking at Covington, instead of building additional lots, and frees up the 5.5-acre Rosita property for more playing field space.

Council postpones Moffett study

The Los Altos City Council's study session on Moffett Federal Airfield scheduled for June 17 has been postponed to allow council members adequate time to read the final report from the Community Advisory Committee on Moffett Federal Airfield (CAC). CAC met Monday night to finalize its report, which was originally expected early in June.The committee has been reviewing airfield use options ranging from open space to overnight cargo operations.
