Town Crier Staff Report

A medieval theme provided an afternoon of fun and frolic for Blach Intermediate School's seventh graders on May 29. Each student created a medieval persona with a name, job, family background and appropriate costume for the Medieval Faire.

The festivities began with a meat pie banquet (and a few vegetarian pies, too) in the "Great Hall" (multipurpose room) where the various "townships" paid tribute to the King Beau Bryan and Queen Aimee Junkins (selected for the day) and their guests. Each of these social studies class delegations (Nottingham, Devon, Camelot, Sherwood Forest, Woodstock, and Molesworthy) was heralded by the trumpet fanfare of Katharine Hill and Carolyn Witmeyer.

Entertainment at the luncheon included recorder melodies courtesy of Principal Arthur Harris and instrumental music teacher Vivian McNulty, and some footwork from court jesters Nick Lazzarini, Alison Cooper, Jaci Feinstein and Ariel Wade.

The rest of the afternoon allowed students to participate in three craft demonstrations and workshops of their choice. Among the activities were illuminated initials, spinning, candle making, tile making, brass rubbings, print making, heraldry, palmistry and sports.

Many Blach parents and teachers contributed to Blach's Medieval Faire, dubbed by all as a memorable social studies experience.

Their efforts were organized by seventh grade teachers Clelia Lion and Janie Schlotfeldt.
