Now open for lunch, dinner and brunch, this upscale, intimate gathering place for the hungry is sure to please. The food and selection are fabulous, the proprietors Jaime and Meredith Carpenter couldn't be friendlier, and it's small enough where they'll remember you by name. They already know what it means to be a Los Altos retail establishment. When a local resident who spilled hot coffee on herself while driving home through Los Altos plowed into the window of Heintzelman's bookstore and For Your Nails on State Street, Jocco's rushed to the rescue. The owners offered a dazzling array of specially prepared smoked salmon sandwiches and garlic french fries to soothe the spirits of their next-door neighbors. They'll be having their grand opening July 27 and you can be on the invite list by dropping by the restaurant and leaving your business card. If you want the best service, ask for Josh and tell him Robin sent you. Party for the arts: Mark Thursday, Oct. 16, on your Social calendars and plan to join the excitement at the official re-opening and black-tie gala benefit of the historic wing at the San Jose Museum of Art. Hors d'oeuvres, dinner and dancing to Dick Bright's SRO, the ultimate party band, will captivate party-goers under the grand white tent in Fairmont Plaza. For information and reservations, call Linda Larkin at (408) 271-6840 or visit the museum's Web site at www.sjmusart.org. And speaking of the S.J.M.A., local Silicon Valley leader Nan Geschke of Los Altos has recently been elected to the board of trustees. She will concentrate her efforts on educational programs and the new library in the museum's historic wing, which will open in late summer. Kick up your heels: Get ready for the fun and excitement at the annual downtown Arts & Wine Festival this weekend, especially if you like to dance. Pride 'n Joy will be providing the musical entertainment on Sunday, starting at 1 p.m., and if you've ever heard them before, you know you won't want to miss it. For details and information, contact the Los Altos Village Association at 949-5282. Stompin' and snortin': The 1997 Cattle Baron's Ball will take place on Saturday, Sept. 27 at Mirassou Vineyards in San Jose. The 1996 ball bucked, stomped and snorted its way into California to become, nationwide, the most successful first-time event benefiting the American Cancer Society. There is quite a contingent of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and Mountain View residents who are members of the Grand View League, a special 100-member plus branch of the Santa Clara County unit of the American Cancer Society who coordinate the event, so there's a good chance you'll be dancing and dining with your community friends and neighbors. For more information, call the American Cancer Society at (408) 287-5973, ext. 133.
