The Los Altos Library was one of 17 winners nationwide in the first "Check it out Yourself Day at the Library" contest sponsored by the 3M company.

In a May drawing in Boston, the library won $1,000 to be used for its acquisitions budget.

The library was among 86 libraries with 3M self-check systems that qualified for the drawing.

The objectives of 3M's first annual "Check it Out Yourself Day at the Library" were "to encourage greater library patron traffic and greater patron self-sufficiency."
