Januario, a 1995 graduate of St. Francis High School of Mountain View, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego.Januario successfully completed 12 weeks of training that began each day at 5 a.m. with a three-mile run. Januario and fellow recruits ended the training phase with The Crucible, a 54-hour team effort. Januario joined the Marine Corps in 1997. Air Force Cadet John S. Kruczynski has graduated from the U. S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., with a bachelor of science degree and received a commission as a second lieutenant. Kruczynski is the son of Leonard R. and Valerie A. Kruczynski of Los Altos. He is a 1993 graduate of Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose. The new lieutenant is scheduled to attend undergraduate pilot training at Laughlin Air force Base in Texas. Navy Ensign Michael P. Robles, son of Beverly V. Lewis of Los Altos Hills, was recently designated a Naval Flight officer while serving with the 562nd Flying Training Squadron in Texas. He was presented with the Wings of Gold award marking the end of 18 months of flight training. Robles is a 1988 graduate of Los Altos High School and joined the Navy in 1989. He is a 1993 graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy with a bachelor's degree. Navy Seaman Recruit Joseph C. Short, son of Joseph C. Short Sr. of Mountain View, recently participated in the Navy's Fleet Week '97 in New York City aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Stout whose home port is Norfolk, Va. During Fleet Week the service members participated in community relations projects. Navy Lt. John F. Vertel, son of Fred J. Vertel of Los Altos, recently returned from a six-month trip to the Western Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf. Vertel's home base is San Diego, and he was one of more than 5,000 Sailors and Marines aboard the lead ship of the USS Kitty Hawk Battle Group. Vertel is a 1982 graduate of St. Francis High School. He joined the Navy in 1987 and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1987 with a bachelor's degree. |
