Town Crier Staff Report

Berna Bennett has taught swimming for more than 20 years in Los Altos and more than 2,000 children have taken her classes. She has condensed her experiences into a new book, just published, titled, "A Gentle Approach to Teaching Children To Swim: Lessons Kids Love."

The book offers illustrated step-by-step instruction on specific techniques and strokes for all ages, plus special insights into how to motivate children and make learning to swim a positive experience.

"Over the years, I developed techniques that gave positive results, Bennett said. "I learned through trial and error, constantly trying out new ideas and learning from my students."

Today, Bennett gives private swimming lessons and also performs as a clown.

The book is available at Linden Tree Children's Records & Books, Adventure Toys & Children's Supplies and Heintzelman's Bookstore, all in downtown Los Altos.

Berna Bennett can be contacted at P.O. Box 1262, Mountain View 94024.
