A man brandishing a gun and wearing a full motorcycle helmet and sunglasses escaped with about $15,000 at 3:15 p.m. July 23 after robbing a Los Altos bank.

He fled on foot from the Bank of America branch at Loyola Corners on Fremont Avenue, said Los Altos police Sgt. Mark Macaulay.

"We brought the dog in (Disco, the police canine) and tracked him toward McKenzie Park," Macaulay said.

The suspect did not use a note but made verbal demands. There were no customers in the bank at the time, just employees, police said.

Several told police they hit the silent alarm.

One teller had only worked there three days at the time of the robbery, Macaulay said.

The suspect stashed the money in a small gym bag that he carried.

"We are trying to coordinate with the FBI," Macaulay said, "to see if they have any similar robberies."

As of July 30, the police had not received any information back from the FBI. The investigation is ongoing.
