Carl Clement/Special to the Town Crier A fire engulfed the roof of this Los Altos Hills home on Dianne Drive last Friday. Neighbor Carl Clement took this picture when he saw the flames. Town Crier Staff Writer Flames visible from the 280 Freeway engulfed the roof of a Los Altos Hills home at 3:42 p.m. last Thursday causing an estimated $250,000 in damage. The cause and origin of the fire at a Dianne Drive home are still under investigation, said Ken Waldvogel, deputy chief of operations with the Santa Clara County Fire department. There were no known injuries. The two-alarm fire drew a total response of eight companies with two chief officers, Waldvogel said. Carl Clement, a Dianne Drive neighbor who was working in his home office when the fire started, said at first it was the sirens that caught his attention. "They got louder and louder. Then I watched as they came up." He said flames burned 30 to 40 percent of the roof before firefighters got the fire under control and that it looked like the fire may have started in the kitchen. "Firefighters were very generous with their time and moved out the living room furniture, including a grand piano," Clement said. Waldvogel did not have the name of the homeowner. Clement said he thought the owners were on vacation at the time of the fire. |
