So she has organized a campaign, "Be an Angel - Drive 25" that has the blessings of both the chief of police and the city of Los Altos. Loebner received a $2,700 grant from the San Mateo-based Peninsula Community Foundation for her campaign. She describes her project as "neighborhood based" to heighten resident awareness of their driving-speed habits. She hopes her program will encourage drivers to keep to 25 mph on neighborhoods streets and will make drivers aware of the dangers of speeding. And she would like help. Her committee of nine will be conducting an "angel walk" Oct. 17 and 18 when they will be taking brochures door-to-door in the Montclaire School, Grant Park and St. Simon neighborhoods. The committee could use more walkers. Then Oct. 20 to 24 will feature "'Be an Angel - Drive 25' Awareness Week." Loebner invites supporters to put a sign in their yard for the awareness week. "We're all in the habit of rushing," she said. "We all have to do our part." For more information, call 969-0136. |
