Education: Bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing Resident of Los Altos: 20 years Employment: School nurse Previous public experience: LASD board member for eight years, Parent/Teacher Association member for 13 years. Motivation for running in the election: I have served for eight years and I love it! I enjoy the interaction between administration, teachers and staff. Most important issues: Re-address opening Covington School and/or complete new construction on the current school sites. Bring more school playing fields to an improved state and work with the city to integrate the "401 Rosita" site, making it a resource for all. Provide ongoing mentoring in order to ensure the 50 "new to the district" teachers are grounded in our curriculum. Goals if elected: We need to expand partnering with community groups such as the Rotary Club of Los Altos. Rotarians have been very supportive of our students speaking at least 26 different languages. I would like to see continued integration of computers to teach our curriculum. I am encouraged by the number of choral groups at elementary schools. I would like to see this continued at our junior highs. Why you can make a difference: I am the only board member, or candidate, who is a resident of Mountain View. With more than 20 percent of the students in our district from Mountain View, it is essential to have a contact within Mountain View to present the needs of the district. I have been effective in securing money for additional personnel to work with our district nurse to meet health needs of district students. I've worked with the Mountain View Parks and Recreation Department to address after-school activities. |
