Parents with teens

Michael Riera, noted adolescent expert and author of "Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers," will speak at 7 p.m. Oct. 29, at Smithwick Theatre, Foothill College. Tickets are $15 or 2/$25.

Proceeds will benefit the Parental Stress Hotline, TeenLine and Parenting Education at Family Service Mid-Peninsula.

International Scholarships

All students in grades nine through 12 are invited to apply for the fifth annual EF Ambassador Scholarship which will include an 11-day expense-paid tour of Europe in July.

One qualified student from each state will be awarded a scholarship.

The application deadline is Jan. 31, 1998.

Young-Fives preschool openings

The "Young-Fives" preschool program has immediate openings for children ages four and a half years old or older.

The class meets from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Mountain View Parent Nursery School. For more information, call Jane Zdepski at 969-9506.

Deadline for county schools posts

Persons interested in serving on the Santa Clara County Committee on School Organization need to submit an application, including a letter of intent and brief resume, to the County Office of Education by 5 p.m., Oct. 17.

An election will be held Nov. 21 to fill three seats on the Committee from Supervisorial Districts 1, 3, and 5.

All candidates must be registered voters and reside within the county supervisorial district that they wish to represent.

No employee of a public school district or the County Office of Education may serve. Members of the governing board of a school district may serve.

KFJC record swap this Saturday

Hard-to-find records, compact disks and cassettes will be available at the KFJC Record Swap, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.this Saturday in the main dining hall on the Foothill College campus, Los Altos Hills.

Mountain View Schools Fund

Mountain View Schools Fund, a non-profit organization founded to help the Mountain View School district cope with reduced state and federal funding, is holding its annual phone-a-thon Oct. 21 and 22 to raise money for school books.

Free Technology for Schools program

Sprint customers may register their residential long distance account so that a percentage of their phone bill will be automatically donated to any K-12 school they choose

All funds will go directly towards educational technology purchases. Customers can register by calling 800-233-6080 and giving the school ID number of their choice. Information for senior parcel tax exemptions

Ever since the Los Altos Town Crier printed a story about the senior parcel tax exemption July 9, there has been an overwhelming response from residents who are interested in applying for the tax exemption.

Residents who are 65 years or older, own and occupy property in the Los Altos School District and wish to apply for the exemption, may call Mary Jane Bailey at the school district office at 941-4010 for more information.
