Vandalism may mean locked tennis courts

Last March, the arduous task of getting the Egan School tennis courts back to playing shape was completed. Since then, the courts have been enjoyed by the students, including the tennis team, as well as by many members of the community. Unfortunately, there have already been several attacks of vandalism.

There is something very wrong when this is occurring in Los Altos. It took six months and $15,000, all from private donations, to have tennis courts again at Egan. Saviano Company, the contractor, has so far generously repaired the damages at no charge.

However, if the courts continue to sustain damage, they may have to be locked.

Community members, and especially Egan parents, need to instill in the young people a sense of responsibility to their community, and the property therein.

Satisfied with LAH Moffett resolution

On Nov. 5 the council of the town of Los Altos Hills passed a strong resolution opposing the future use of Moffett Field for air cargo, commercial or general aviation.

The resolution wording is similar to that which the Los Altos council passed last August.

We congratulate the Hills for taking this stand against continued degradation of our region's environment.

Los Altos Hills council now joins other communities, which are concerned with the future vision of our area, and agrees that another major airport would be detrimental to us all.

The Hills resolution states that it supports NASA Ames Research Center and the major land use initiatives proposed by NASA: high-tech institutes, Air & Space Museum, wetlands developments, educational centers, etc.

We now encourage other communities, such as Cupertino, Saratoga and Los Gatos, to consider the issue and help to form a united front against making our region a vast fly-way to Moffett.
