Ernie Dossa of Homestead High has been selected by his Central Coast Section colleagues as the 1997-98 Honor Coach for Girls Basketball.

Dossa, who retired from coaching after last season, achieved an overall record of 256-66 in his 16 years at Homestead. His teams won six league championships and two CCS titles (1986 and 1996). Homestead has also been a CCS runner-up twice (1988 and 1997) and been in the CCS "Final Four" five times. Dossa also gave his teams many diverse experiences by taking them to China, New Zealand, and Tahiti.

Prior to coming to Homestead, Dossa coached at Fremont and Lynbrook highs. Lynbrook athletic director Sandi Stober says Dossa "modeled the true high school coaching standards. He educates, counsels, advises and coaches his players about the game and about life."

Dossa was honored at the CCS Board of Managers meeting Oct. 23.
