Blach holiday faire

Blach Intermediate School will hold its annual Holiday Faire from 12:30-4 p.m., Dec. 5, in the school's multipurpose room, 1120 Covington Road, Los Altos. Students will be making and selling jewelry, candles, holiday decorations and good.

Menlo dance concert

Menlo School will present its 10th annual dance concert at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 12, in Florence Moore Auditorium. The evening will showcase a variety of dance styles from ballet and modern to hip-hop and jazz.

Dances will be performed by students from Sacred Heart, Crystal Springs, Carlmont, the Dance Arts Center, Burgess Recreational Center, the Menlo Knight Dancers (that includes Los Altos Hills resident Ken Burian and Los Altos resident Sue Young), and Knight Life and Middle School dance group.

Exchange hosts needed

World Heritage, a nonprofit organization that sponsors high school exchange students while they spend an academic year in the United States, is looking for families interested in hosting foreign exchange students.

Winter classes at Foothill College

Winter classes at Foothill College start Jan. 5 and continue through March 27. Students of all ages and skill levels can enroll in the more than 1,000 courses being offered, including language arts, business science, biological and health sciences, and computer, technology and information systems.

Continuing students can register online and by telephone through Dec. 11. New and returning students can register online and by telephone Dec. 1-11. Late registration can be made in person Dec. 17-18 in the Admissions and Records Office.

THAT PLACE

THAT PLACE, a teen recreation program offered through Mountain View Recreation Division, is now open Friday and Saturday nights from 7-11 p.m. to high school students living in Mountain View and Los Altos.

Teens can listen to live music on Fridays and participate in games and tournaments on Saturdays.

Duracell scholarships

The 16th annual Duracell/NSTA Scholarship Competition is open to students in grades seven through 12 and to two-person teams. Contestants are required to invent battery-powered devices that will be judged on creativity, practicality, and energy efficiency.

More than $100,000 in U.S. savings bonds will be awarded to 100 winners. First place winners will receive $20,000 bonds, second place winners will receive $10,000 bonds and third place winners will receive $1,000 bonds.

Box tops for education

To raise money for their school, students at Montclaire School in Los Altos are participating in a program with General Mills called Big Box Tops for Education.

For every qualifying General Mills cereal box top collected, the school will receive 15 cents, and for every qualifying snack and Yoplait Yogurt multipack product top collected, the school will receive 10 cents.

The program has already began and will run through March 31. The money collected will be used to purchase computers, software, library books and PE equipment.

Young-Fives preschool openings
