Los Altos Senior Center

Today: "It's A Wonderful Life," the Frank Capra classic starring Jimmy Stewart, shown at 1 p.m.

Friday: The St. Nicholas School first grade class will sing at a volunteers recognition luncheon at noon.

Monday: Holiday wrapping party for home-bound seniors, at 1 p.m.

Tuesday: Trip to "Christmas in the Park" in San Jose, with dinner, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Dec. 11: Members of Opera San Jose will give a special 45-minute performance beginning 1 p.m. in the multipurpose room.

Dec. 12: Holiday luncheon and entertainment at noon, featuring Ruthe Feller giving her "One Woman Show," with Ruth Hipdon at the piano and Ken Sonkin, the "Magic Mime," also performing.

Dec. 15: Movie, "The Santa Clause," starring Tim Allen, shown at 1 p.m.

Dec. 16: Birthday bingo party, 1 p.m.

Dec. 17: San Francisco lights tour, leaving at 4 p.m.

Dec. 18: A "farewell and retirement" party for Senior Center staffer Judie Sidebottom. The event, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature a cake cutting at 10 a.m. and refreshments all day long. Visitors are welcome to sign Sidebottom's journal. Sidebottom, who is retiring on Dec. 19, said she's enjoyed working at the Los Altos center the past nine years. "Thank you for giving me the opportunity to develop relationships with so many wonderful people," she wrote to senior center visitors.

Notes: The senior center has a loan closet for sick room items like canes, walkers and wheelchairs. Call Judie at 948-7483 to borrow these items. ... Activity Cards are for sale at the senior center for $12.

Altos residents. Others pay $17. The card is good until June 1998. ... Selected videos are available for viewing. ... A nurse is available for blood pressure screening from 9:15-11 a.m. the first and third Wednesdays of the month for drop-ins. ... The senior center will be closed for two weeks, during the Christmas and New Years Day holiday weeks, beginning noon Friday, Dec. 19.

Mountain View Senior Center

Sunday: "Silver and Spice," will be tapping along to holiday tunes beginning at 2 p.m. Admission is $1.

Monday: The Center for Living With Dying will offer a grief workshop, 10 a.m. to noon. Marianne Gallagher will be the facilitator. Topics include coping with the holiday season after the loss of a loved one. Register by calling 903-6330.

Dec. 10: The Mountain View Senior Coordinating Council will meet 9 a.m. to discuss such issues as affordable senior housing and a possible utility tax exemption for seniors.

Note: Mountain View Senior Center chess players are looking for some new players to add to the group. All levels of players will be welcomed. Players meet at the game tables in the game room at 1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
