Lempert town hall meeting

Ted Lempert, the state assemblyman representing our 21st district, will host a one-hour town hall meeting 11 a.m., Saturday, at Los Altos City Hall, 1 N. San Antonio Road.

Lempert's topics of discussion will include the status of education in California, including the shortage of math teachers and the current health of community colleges. Lempert also will discuss a proposed Internet tax. A question and answer period will follow Lempert's talk.

The meeting, sponsored by the Town Crier as a public service, is free to the public. For more information, call Lempert's office at 856-2181.

Volunteers for homebound seniors

The Senior Services Department of Community Services Agency, which links the elderly with critically needed social and health services, needs volunteers to drive homebound seniors to its holiday luncheon Tuesday. Drivers are also needed to deliver presents. Come to an organizational meeting at noon, Monday, for assignments and to help gift wrap. Bring your own lunch.

Aurora Singers holiday concert

The Aurora Singers will perform their annual holiday concert at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 19, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 505 E. Charleston Road, in Palo Alto.

Fire board vacancies in Los Altos Hills

The Los Altos Hills County Fire District will have two vacancies on the fire district board of commissioners, beginning January 1998. The commission, open to Los Altos Hills residents, meets the third Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the fire station on the Foothill College campus.

Donations sought for holiday lights

The Los Altos Village Association is seeking donations for the street decorations and lights that adorn many of the trees in downtown Los Altos during the month of December. This year's lights, which will be installed by Saturday, cost $12,000 to put up, of which $9,000 goes for repairs. The remaining $3,000 is needed for new lights. To donate, call the village association at 949-5282.

History House needs vintage items

History House of Los Altos is looking for selected items to be donated to the Museum-House collection, particularly items from the 1848-1900 period.

Needed items include California statehood memorabilia, dry farming produce objects, and items from Los Altos' first businesses.

The History House also is seeking volunteer assistants. Call curator Amie Heath at 948-9427 for details.

Rec dept. sponsoring ski trips

The Los Altos Recreation Department will be sponsoring three one-day snowboard and ski trips this winter. These trips are open to students in seventh-12th grades and the cost is $67 per trip. Excursions include travels to Kirkwood on Jan. 10, Northstar at Tahoe on Jan. 31 and Kirkwood again on March 14.

The department is also sponsoring a weekend trip to Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows Feb. 27-March 1. The cost of this trip is $150.

Registration is taken on a first-come, first-served basis at the department, located at 97 Hillview Ave., in Los Altos. For more information or for a reservation form, call Michael Lamb, teen program coordinator, at 841-0950, ext. 301.

City seeks volunteer sidewalk supes

The city of Los Altos is looking for people who enjoy walking to serve as "sidewalk superintendents." Volunteers will be trained to observe city sidewalks and identify locations in need of repair. Parents without Partners Shoreline Chapter

The Shoreline Chapter of Parents Without Partners serves Santa Clara County as a support group for single parents. The group meets at 5 p.m. every Saturday and is open to any parent who is single.
