Los Altos Senior Center

Friday: "Happy New Year" tea party scheduled for 1 p.m.

Jan. 23: January luncheon at 1 p.m. in the multipurpose room, featuring a performance from the Peninsula Banjo Band. Cost is $3 with activity card, $6 without.

Jan. 27: Senior Coordinating Council meeting at 9 a.m., featuring Malcolm Smith, public affairs manager with the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District. Smith will give a slide show on the district's history, mission and accomplishments over the past 25 years.

Notes: The senior center has a loan closet for sick room items like canes, walkers and wheelchairs. Call 948-7483 to borrow these items. ... Activity Cards are for sale at the senior center for $12 for Los Altos residents. Others pay $17. The card is good until June 1998. ... Selected videos are available for viewing. ... A nurse is available for blood pressure screening from 9:15-11 a.m. the first and third Wednesdays of the month for drop-ins.

Mountain View Senior Center

The Los Altos Senior Center is located at the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., in Los Altos. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 948-7483.

The Mountain View Senior Center is located at 266 Escuela Ave., Mountain View. For more information, call 903-6330. Following is a list of special events for the month.

Today: A "Get Acquainted Coffee Hour," scheduled for 10 a.m., offers men and women 55 and over the opportunity to join volunteers and staff for conversation about the benefits of joining the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.

Sunday: "Bud and Verle's Musical Commodores" will perform at 2 p.m. Admission is $3, including refreshments.

Note: Mountain View Senior Center chess players are looking for some new players to add to the group. All levels of players will be welcomed. Players meet at the game tables in the game room at 1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
