Fred Cummings, a longtime member of the Oakland chapter, will present a program of gardens in Scotland, featuring rhododendrons and companion plants, plus highlights from his garden in Orinda. Republican women luncheon The Los Altos Republican Women, Federated, will next meet 11:30 a.m., Jan. 21, at Mac's American Grill on Main Street in Los Altos. Rose pruning subject of meeting Heidi Johnson, consultant and designer, will be the guest speaker for the next meeting of the Garden Club of Los Altos, set for 1:30 p.m., Jan. 27, in the Creekside Room of the United Methodist Church, 655 Magdalena Ave., Los Altos. Johnson will explain and demonstrate how to prune roses. The program also will include a brief talk on butterfly and hummingbird gardens. Admission is $2. The public is invited. Blood drive at Springer School The Los Altos-Mountain View PTA council will be holding a blood drive from 2-7 p.m., Thursday, at Springer School in the multi-use room, 1120 Rose Ave., in Mountain View. The staff from the Stanford Blood Center will be taking the blood donations. Drop-ins are welcome but appointments are preferred. Child care will be provided. History House needs vintage items History House of Los Altos is looking for selected items to be donated to the Museum-House collection, particularly items from the 1848-1900 period. Needed items include California statehood memorabilia, dry farming produce objects, and items from Los Altos' first businesses. Call curator Amie Heath at 948-9427 for details. Rec department sponsors ski trips The Los Altos Recreation Department will be sponsoring three one-day snowboard and ski trips this winter. These trips are open to students in seventh-12th grades and the cost is $67 per trip. Excursions include travels to Northstar at Tahoe on Jan. 31 and Kirkwood on March 14. The department is also sponsoring a weekend trip to Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows Feb. 27-March 1. For more information or for a reservation form, call 941-0950, ext. 301. |
