Los Altos Hills resident Ted Omura received his doctor of chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic West in San Jose last fall.

Los Altos resident Julie Marie Sobczyk received her bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in December.

Paul B. Van Buren of Los Altos was elected chair of the University of South Dakota Foundation recently. He will serve a two-year term. Van Buren is retired from Pacific Telesis Group in San Francisco and a 1969 USD graduate and a Rhodes Scholar.

Susan Rea of Los Altos and Clyde Rea Jr. of Mountain View were both inducted into the Colgate chapter of the national scholastic honorary society of Phi Eta Sigma, which recognizes the outstanding academic achievement of first-year students. Students must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or above to qualify.
