The Owls shot just 28 percent from the field and grabbed only 39 rebounds. Rene Carriere (11 points) and Shawna McGlennon (10) were the only Foothill players to score in double digits. On Jan. 7, the Owls lost their Coast Conference opener 59-46 to San Jose City. San Jose - rated No. 1 in Northern California - pressured Foothill all over the court, unleashing double- and triple-team traps that forced 32 turnovers. At one point, the Owls failed to reach half court on five straight possessions. Despite their carelessness, Foothill stormed back from a 35-23 deficit at the intermission with 10 unanswered points to open the second half. Krista Knapp led the comeback with three successive follow-ins and McGlennon and Heather Green broke the press for easy lay-ins. However, San Jose then tightened its pressure and eventually pulled away. Foothill staged a mild rally with about six minutes to play, closing within 48-43. But again, San Jose took over and sealed the win. Knapp was double teamed nearly every time she touched the ball and finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. Green had nine points, while McGlennon and Carriere scored eight each. The Owls host rival De Anza at 7 p.m. tonight. |
