Boys basketball roundup
The Los Altos High boys basketball team hoped last Friday's league opener would be like a new start. A win against visiting Lynbrook could help the Eagles forget about their disappointing non-league season.
Unfortunately for Los Altos, Lynbrook failed to cooperate. The Vikings came away with a 46-43 win, dropping the Eagles to 3-10 overall and 0-1 in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.
At least Los Altos didn't go down without a fight. The Eagles led by a point after the first quarter and trailed 19-18 at the half.
But Lynbrook started to pull away in the third quarter, going on a 16-7 run. Los Altos put together an 18-11 run in the fourth, but it wasn't enough.
Not one Eagle scored in double digits that night, though three players came close. Eian Burton and Jeremaine Racela scored nine points each and Pete Bjorklund added eight.
Mtn. View edges Monta Vista
Mountain View High edged Monta Vista 43-39 last Friday to even its record at 1-1 in the SCVAL El Camino Division.
The host Spartans (5-10 overall) were led by Seth Greenstein (14 points), Sean Coonce (10) and Jason Davalos (9).
St. Francis stops Sacred Heart
St. Francis High improved to 2-0 in the West Catholic Athletic League by beating Sacred Heart Cathedral 49-37 last Saturday.
Senque Carey recorded a triple-double for the visiting Lancers with 21 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds.
Matt Maguire scored nine points and Pat Yaeger had eight for St. Francis (13-1 overall).
Pinewood clobbers Kings
Pinewood School tuned-up for league play with a 66-58 win over visiting Kings Academy last Friday.
The Panthers (6-8 overall) were led by John Neil, who scored 29 points. David D'Anna chipped in 11.
Homestead wins in overtime
Homestead High upset Cupertino 66-58 in overtime last Friday. Brian Holm scored 17 points for the host Mustangs (1-0 in El Camino Division, 3-10 overall).
