The Los Altos Chamber of Commerce will host its 15th annual "Salute to the Mayors" banquet, Jan. 31, in the Palo Alto University Club. No- host cocktails will start the proceedings at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. The University Club is located at 3277 Miranda Ave., Palo Alto.

The optional black tie event brings together residents and friends of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills to honor local leaders and salute the current mayors of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills, Kris Casto and Toni Casey, respectively.

For the sixth year, the Walter and Marie Singer Business Volunteer Award will be presented to a local business person. The "Order of the Bow" award is given annually to a local business leader whose community service, generosity and commitment to business exemplifies the spirit of the Los Altos community. Organizers said that spirit became Walter and Marie Singer's personal hallmark.

Last year's winner, Conrad Heintzelman of Heintzelman's Bookstore, accepted the award with a lot of pride and an equal dash of humility.

"I was deeply moved and honored to receive the Singer Award," Heintzelman said. "It's an obligation to live up to the standard of the award."

Singer Award recipients in past years include: Roger Brunello, Le Boulanger; Dennis Young, American Express Tax & Business Services; Ingrid Jackson-MacDonald, artist and owner of Sunbird Gallery; Larry Chu, Chef Chu's Restaurant.

"This year, the vote on the new recipient award was an easy decision to make," Heintzelman said. "Each of the past recipients and the president of the Chamber of Commerce voted for the award, which will be announced at the banquet."

Music for the evening will be provided by Steve Wozniak and The Sound Investment. Dancing will continue after the awards until 11 p.m.

Reservations are a must and tickets are available for $45 at the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce, 321 University Ave., Los Altos. For more information, call 948-1455.
