Armed robber strikes at Homestead PayLess

By Joanne Griffith Domingue / Town Crier Staff Writer

Early in the morning, while counting weekend receipts, a PayLess Drug Store employee answered a knock at the door and found herself facing a robber.

A juvenile wearing a 49er baseball cap, "shoved a gun in her face and said to open the safe," said Los Altos Police Sgt. Mark Macaulay.

The subject got away with "a substantial sum," in four figures, Macaulay said, of the 7:31 a.m. robbery on Jan. 12 at the store on Homestead Road.

The victim told police she saw only one subject but heard the voices of possibly two others.

Police described the weapon used as a 9 mm semi-automatic hand gun.
