Special to the Town Crier

From the music of Duke Ellington to the writings of Langston Hughes, Harlem in the 1920s was the scene of a cultural revolution.

This exciting period, and the multimedia exhibit at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, is the subject of a lecture 7:30 p.m., Feb. 4, at the Los Altos Main Library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.

The lecture is free and sponsored by the City of Los Altos, Friends of the Los Altos Library, and the Los Altos Arts Committee.

The "Rhapsodies in Black " exhibit originated in London and is in San Francisco through March 8.

It brings together for the first time in the United States, paintings, sculpture, and photography of this period as well as rare archival film footage.

Josephine Palmer, a docent with the San Francisco Fine Arts Museums who specializes in American art, will review the exhibit and the influences that gave birth to the Harlem renaissance.
