The Los Altos Chamber of Commerce will host its 15th annual Salute to the Mayors Banquet, this Saturday in the Palo Alto University Club.
No host cocktails will start the proceedings at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m.
The University Club is located at 3277 Miranda Ave., Palo Alto.
The optional black tie event brings together residents and friends of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills to honor local leaders and salute the current mayors of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills, Kris Casto and Toni Casey, respectively.
For the sixth year, the Walter and Marie Singer Business Volunteer Award will be presented to a local business person. The "Order of the Bow" award is given annually to a local business leader whose community service, generosity and commitment to business exemplifies the spirit of the Los Altos community.
Organizers said that spirit became Walter and Marie Singer's personal hallmarks.
Reservations are a must and tickets are available for $45 at the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce, 321 University Ave., Los Altos.

History House membership
The cost of adding your name to the membership of Los Altos History House may be an important contribution to the historical preservation of local culture and history.
Membership benefits include making new friends who share an active interest in town history and preserving historic homes. Members received receive reduced rates or free adminission at many Los Altos annual community activities, and volunteer opportunities abound.
Annual events include the February crab feed, a third grade essay contest and ice cream Social, a California Country Antique Show, a summer barbecue, an American Antique Fair and Christmas holiday teas.

Rec department sponsors ski trips
The Los Altos Recreation Department will be sponsoring three one-day snowboard and ski trips this winter. These trips are open to students in seventh-12th grades and the cost is $67 per trip. Excursions include travels to Kirkwood on March 14.
The department is also sponsoring a weekend trip to Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows Feb. 27-March 1. The cost of this trip is $150.
Registration is taken on a first-come, first-served basis at the department, located at 97 Hillview Ave., in Los Altos.

City seeks volunteer sidewalk supes
The city of Los Altos is looking for people who enjoy walking to serve as "sidewalk superintendents." Volunteers will be trained to observe city sidewalks and identify locations in need of repair. Parents without Partners chapter
The Shoreline Chapter of Parents Without Partners serves Santa Clara County as a support group for single parents. The group meets at 5 p.m. every Saturday for introductions to the organization and is open to any parent who is single. A monthly dance is held every third Friday.
