To pre-register, parents must present a photocopy of both proof of the child's age (birth certificate, passport, or baptismal certificate) and proof of residence (a rent receipt, house deed, or utility bill in the name of the parent or guardian) to school officials. Parents may also wish to provide a photocopy of their child's immunization records. The school will then give each parent a numbered registration receipt and packet of information to be completed and returned by Feb. 17. Pre-registration is strongly advised. To be eligible for next year's kindergarten, children must be 5 years old on or before Dec. 2, 1998, and parents must pre-register their children at the neighborhood school serving the attendance area of the legal residence of the parent or guardian. Foothill College African-American Month Foothill College is sponsoring a variety of events and exhibits throughout February as part of its annual African-American Heritage Month celebration. The following list features celebration highlights: A lifetime of works created by eminent artist Claude Clark that illustrate the cultural legacy of African-Americans will run through Feb. 28 in the Foothill College Gallery, located inside the Seamans Library. Admission is free. Young adults will present a variety of performing art media including jazz, spoken word and a step competition, at 7 p.m., Feb. 21, at Smithwick Theater. Tickets are $10 general admission and $7 students. For more information, call 949-7282. A gospel concert will be held at 7 p.m., Feb. 28 at Smithwick Theater. Tickets are $10 general admission and $6 for students. Audiences will be able to experience African-American history through the evolution of Negro spirituals and gospel music. Dave Emory to host KFJC lecture KFJC talk show host Dave Emory will be hosting a lecture with author Ed Haslam at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20 in Room F-12 in the Forum Building. A $10 donation at the door will benefit KFJC. Parking is $2. Haslam is the author of "Mary, Ferrie and the Monkey Virus: the story of an underground laboratory." KFJC starts record swap hotline In an effort to help record buyers find a sought-after item at the next KFJC Record Swap, interested parties can make requests on the new hotline, 949-7555. Requests will be taken until Feb.. 26. The next record swap will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 8 at Foothill's main dining hall. Panel to discuss how TV affects kids A panel of distinguished professionals will discuss the affects television has on children from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Albert L. Intradistrict transfers in Fremont's schools Cupertino, Fremont and Homestead high schools are open for intradistrict transfers. Parents or legal guardians who reside within the District's boundaries may request student placement at another school in the district where space is available. Transfer request forms must be submitted no later than March 31. All students must initially register at their school of residence. Parents may then submit requests to the principal of the school of residence. Parents will be notified if their requests have been accepted before June 1. KRON-TV Scholarships available to students To encourage young people to become involved in print and broadcast journalism, KRON-TV and the San Francisco Chronicle have teamed up to establish two $1,500 scholarships.
